Therapeutic Path

If you want to start a therapeutic path with ARTOI you can start now, with our first contact form.

Each patient has a therapeutic process related to the histological type of tumor, presence or absence of spread to other organs, age, health status, concomitant conditions.

It may be possible to determine, in general, some general rules to which the patient should undergo for a better treatment:

-Diagnosis

-Staging

-Therapy

-Follow-up

Diagnosis

The histological diagnosis of cancer is the most important phase. The result affects decisively the continuation of the route and type of treatment the patient must undergo.

Our advice is to ask for a “Second Opinion” in any case. This is a rule in the European and American countries. It is not a lack of confidence, but it can be a means to have more information about the tumor.

Staging

For an adequate treatment is necessary to know whether the tumor extensively involved the organ, other organs or body structures.

Through simple instrumental exams can have more information, such as for example; Ultrasonography of the organ and surrounding areas, computed tomography (spiral CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), bone Scintigraphy (in selected cases) are some tests that can fulfill this task.

The medical specialist will decide, as appropriate, that the best use to complete the path.

Our advice is to know in advance the disease history of the patient through CT/MRI and possibly Scintigraphy.

The PET-CT is indicated in those cases in which the instrumental tests described above have shown pathological foci. Must be performed at least after an appropriate period after surgery (at least 21-30 days). It still need to run it at least once after surgery.

The blood tests regarding the activity of the immune system it is a necessity for us. It is essential to know how much our body should be stimulated to return to work properly (known activity and lymphocyte typing: T4, T8 lymphocytes, natural killer lymphocytes, etc. ..)

Therapy

When you have made all these tests the doctor has all the tools in hand to decide the most appropriate treatment for the patient.

Chemotherapy and / or radiotherapy with hyperthermia, or the ability to use natural drugs (complementary or integrative therapy) are his choices.

But his work is not yet completed.

When the doctor has his first encounter with the patient he usually has got a complete histological diagnosis. And at this point in the request for staging examination can not miss genetic testing for Pharmacogenomics.

It is the right stage in which there is a duty to prescribe and execute them. Following the chemotherapeutic protocols for the disease your doctor knows the type of drug to use. With Pharmacogenomics tests are going to consider not whether the drug itself acts, but if the drug is effective in our patient.

It is not an evaluation of the drug but on its possible use to him. We know that there are small genetic changes (referred to as genetic polymorphism) that make the drug rarely used and “metabolized” by the body, thus increasing the toxic effects to the detriment of its effectiveness. It is a fundamental question that we consider essential to perform.

Concur in the decision of the therapeutic approach more aspects: diagnosis, staging, medical-instrument therapy and psychological. It must never be underestimated the psychological aspect of the patient and everyone involved. The approach to psycho-oncology has to follow the medical together.

The proper nutrition is another feature of the therapy of patients. The nutrigenomics is an international reality that must be sufficiently known in Italy.

Follow-up

The phases of control must relate to the physical condition of the patient. But at this stage must be taken into account the prevention and protection.

And it is in this field that we differ in a decisive manner compared to conventional treatments. According to our thinking, the patient should always be followed carefully with appropriate treatment to avoid relapse.

The instrumental controls are “early diagnosis” of relapses, not prevention.

For prevention and protection we mean a variety of medical therapies that reduce the likelihood of drug re-disease. The stimulation of the immune system, an adequate intake of drugs that protect the body from fallout are the cornerstones of Integrative Cancer Therapy.

The patient with malignant disease is a subject that has immune deficiency and minimal deficiency of the genome.

There are drugs that control these deficits and reduce the chance of relapse. We advise our patients to protect themselves with natural drugs, proper diet, a better relationship with oneself and the environment.

The checks will therefore be instrumental (CT / MRI, etc, ..) blood (immune system, cellular activity, etc. ..), psychotherapy, adequate nutrition control, physical activity.
