1st ISS Integrative Oncology Conference – ARTOI (5th International Congress)
Translational medicine: from the laboratory to the clinical evidence
Higher Institute of Health- Avenue Queen Elena 299
Rome, November 6-7, 2013
As part of the event, scientific aspects of “integrated” cancer therapies will be discussed. Integrated oncology refers to the combined application of methods, be they interventional (surgery, radiotherapy, hyperthermia), pharmacological (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, supplementary support), or dietary and psychological, to improve the psychophysical state and quality of life of the patient, as well as to increase the likelihood of positive responses. Two days will be devoted to the presentation of research aimed at the application of cancer treatments carried out through the integrated use of multiple therapeutic options. This will allow you to gain knowledge in the fields (i) cancer prevention, with particular reference to nutrition, the immune system and the microbiota; (ii) research into the use of new molecules, different pathways or methods of drug delivery, or integration between various methods of treatment, drugs or molecules; (iii) of the results obtained in the clinic through the application of cancer treatments through the integrated use of multiple therapeutic options. The “integrated” oncology therapies in the world today are considered necessary in the management of the cancer patient, in order to improve care and quality of life. The results of these therapies have, in some cases, facilitated the optimisation of therapy associated with a satisfactory reduction in costs for the NHS.
